Second Hike out in 2009

Last week we hiked the Kings Mountain-Elk Mountain loop. Yes, the Elk mountain trail is the steepest thing in the book "60 Hikes in 60 miles of Portland"

I'm happy we made it.

There was cold to start, then ice and snow, then ice cliffs, then more wet snow, then cold and dark. It was alot of fun. 13 miles and about 2500' elevation change, we started about an hour late, and on the trail 8 hours. Up and down, and the Elk mountain trail was more down.

We met 3 guys and 1 dog at the intersection between Kings mountain and Elk mountain. They were traveling the opposite direction as us. We met them again at the bottom on the river trail heading toward the respective vehicles home. It was nice meeting nice people twice on the trail.

Did I mention the Elk mountain trail is steep?
